At least 20 evacuated from Norway tunnel
OSLO, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- At least 20 people were evacuated on Monday from a tunnel in which a semitrailer caught fire, said Norwegian policemen in the Sogn and Fjordane county.
The police sources said 20 to 25 persons were evacuated out of the Gudvangen tunnel on the E-16 highway.
No death or injuries have been reported so far in the incident.
A semitrailer fire occurred 3.5 kilometers inside the tunnel from the side of Flaam, a popular tourist attraction in Norway.
Several vehicles were involved in minor collisions as a result of the fire.
Some people walked out the tunnel on their own, their bodies covered with black soot.
Fire brigadiers and civil defense units were called to the spot to reinforce the fire department in Aurland, a nearby town.
The tunnel was filled with smoke after the fire, for which police were alerted on 12:10 local time (1010 GMT) on Monday.
A bus was reportedly on its way to Site to pick up the evacuated, likely tourists.
