2 policemen injured in clashes with pro-Morsi protesters in Cairo
CAIRO, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- At least two policemen were injured Friday evening during renewed clashes between security forces and supporters of Egypt's ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi on the outskirts of Cairo, state-run news agency MENA reported.
The police continued firing tear gas bombs at Morsi's affiliates. Security officials told state TV that the protesters attempted to incite violence and clashes with the police deployed around the Media Production City in Cairo.
Earlier, Morsi's supporters attempted to break into the Media Production City with using cartouch and Molotov cocktails and hurling stones at the security forces, which responded with tear gas to prevent them from blocking the roads and crippling work at the City, according to the security sources.
The pro-Morsi protesters chanted slogans against what they claimed as corrupted media which incited people to oust the legitimate president.
Elsewhere, several marches arrived at Rabia al-Adawiya Square in Cairo's Nasr City, where Morsi's supporters have been staging an open-ended sit-in for nearly a month.
On Thursday, the Interior Ministry called on all Islamist protesters in both Rabia al-Adawiya Square in Cairo and Nahda Square in Giza to "listen to the voice of reason" and end their sit-ins for the safety of all people.
On Friday, thousands of pro-Morsi protesters took to the streets, joining a rally dubbed "Egypt against Coup," in a defiant step against the interior ministry's call to evacuate squares and prioritize national interests.
